The Staten Island Advance

The Staten Island Advance is a community newspaper serving the 460,000 residents of New York City’s greenest borough and New York State’s fastest growing county. The emphasis is on local news, and it’s given prominent placement every day. Special features in the Advance include AWE, a Thursday tab highlighting dining and entertainment in the metro area, and FL!P, a Sunday page produced by a press corps of local teens.

True to its mission, the Advance is a good neighbor and a strong supporter of community events. It sponsors a Memorial Day Run, two all-star awards dinners saluting top student athletes, a Women of Achievement luncheon honoring exemplary volunteers, and Cop of the Month and Firefighter of the Month programs. Founded in 1886 and the first newspaper purchased by S.I. Newhouse, the Advance has been recognized for excellence in content and design by the New York State Associated Press Association, the Society for News Design, the Deadline Club of the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Newswomen’s Club of New York.
