Newhouse Spotlight
Today's Sunbeam covers Salem County, New Jersey, in the rural, southwestern part of the Garden State. The Sunbeam traces its roots back to 1819 and the Salem Messenger, one of a number of weeklies that once served the area.

Connie Schultz grew up in the working-class town of Ashtabula, Ohio, near Cleveland. She was the first in her family to go to college, and graduated with a journalism degree from Kent State University in 1979. In 2005, her commentary won the Pulitzer Prize and Scripps-Howard and National Headliner awards.
